9/4/2007 - can we do it? one million feeds, can you donate just a dollar for our project?

You might have noticed the new banner the last couple days on the site. We are doing well in our pursuit to organise one million RSS feeds. However, in thinking some over the weekend, we thought it would be cool to put out a challenge to everyone to match just a dollar for every feed in our project. If you have a feed listed, it's free of course to add, but if you can donate a dollar to the project, that would be great. I will start posting updates to the total amount we have raised for the project. Thanks for sharing us, blogging about us, and continuing to support our efforts! There is nothing that makes a community better than you, the users. With that being said, what features would you like to see on the millionRSS project? We are here to help give you the best RSS directory out there, so let us know what you would like to see more of or see less of! Bring on the requests! Please submit your ideas and suggestions here! 6/25/2007 - Sorry for the inconvenience - the site has been down for about 3 days now

It seems that an upstream provider from our ISP shut down external access to the millionRSS project via our ISP. It should be noted that while at one time we had the actual content from the RSS feeds in our directory project on the site, they were 1. never stored on the millionRSS server (they were pulled in real time from the RSS feed source, and 2. We are no longer showing the actual content from the feed posts in each RSS feed we have in our project. We only show the post title from the RSS feed we have in our directory and provide a link to the site that offers the content. We did this to make sure that we weren't violating any copyright or intellectual property inadvertently by just showing the actual feed details and content on the fly - the site only will show titles to each RSS post and no content to the each post. This alleviates the millionRSS project from ever displaying any content that might be posted on the web illegally. We are back up and running as the millionRSS directory project and hope you find the RSS feeds you wan to subscribe to. 5/29/2007 - Javascript Code to easily get your BUMP Rank up from your readers!

Hope everyone had a nice Memorial day weekend. It looks like we have been successful in transitioning to the new rss feed details format on the millionRSS project, so with that said I wanted to Thank Michael Pick over at Master New Media for this incredible review of the millionRSS project. Thanks Michael! Also, we were hard at work over the weekend adding a couple new features: 1. OPML feeds of your search results - look for the new blue button on the search results pages and 2. The ability for bloggers to easily add some javascript so their own readers can increase their BUMP rank here on the millionRSS project. On each feed details page now you will see a block of javascript code you can add to your site so your users can bump your feed on the millionRSS project. 5/25/2007 - limited feed details (only titles) are being shown now to see if that is acceptable to everyone...

First off, many thanks to everyone for all the great feedback. We are working to make this project beneficial for everyone, so we really appreciate your help and emails. In looking at a way to make the project a little more than just a directory of feeds and still respect everyone's copyright to their data, we thought we could give all the blog owners out there a backlink to their posts by just showing your recent post titles. To see the actual content, we will send you all the visitors we can to your blog. In working with Jonathan from Plagiarism Today, we thought this would be a great way to move forward only using post titles. Also, we have added an automated way for blog owners to prevent the millionRSS project from showing the recent post titles - via robots.txt. - simply add this code to your robots.txt file and the millionRSS project won't show your recent posts. 5/24/2007 - feed details and content have been removed..but...

In looking at ways to still make our millionRSS project successful and still repsect everyone's copyrights, we were wondering what your thoughts are - would it be ok to show the headline of each post in the rss feeds we organise on the millionRSS project with a link back to the original site to actually view the content? This would still have all the blog owners out in the way of back links while still respecting their copyrights for the content on their sites...how does that sound to everyone? 5/20/2007 - if you don't want your feed in our project...

In the past couple days a few blog owners have requested that we remove their feed details from the millionRSS project, if you are a blog owner and don't want your feed displayed, simply contact us and let us know. It's as simple as that - Cheers! Matthew

Edit: We are currently working on a robots.txt exclusion so webmasters can let us know easily they want to be excluded from the project...

4/7/2007 - google experiment...

Evening everyone! We are running a small google experiment on the site to determine how many google impressions we see from our embedded ad code - we will run it for several days to determine what we might be able to charge for anyone wanting to advertise directly on the site. 4/2/2007 - hit 80K+ feeds...

We are really starting to get some traction everyone. Thanks to everyone for any blog write ups and mentions you can give us :) We are going to be looking at new ways to help offset the operations costs going forward, so if you have any cool ideas, please let us know! :) Cheers! Matthew

3/29/2007 - new Bump rank system released

Ah, the fun of the internet - previously, our BUMP system was allowing anyone without a "hey you have already bumped that feed" cookie to vote for any feed on millionRSS. Yesterday, we noticed a huge spike in some feeds (names held to protect the innocent) - there might have been a glitch on our end that allow multiple votes, but it was just too fishy. Today we implemented a CAPTCHYA system that works alongside our Cookie based site monitoring of feed owners trying to Bump theirs to the top. Don't get us wrong, vote all you want, just please don't cheat your way to the top :) Cheers! Matthew

3/16/2007 - new site design - released today

Tonight, we rolled a new look and feel to the site - we hope you like it. Also, we added a new cool search feature on each page so you can search all our RSS Feeds. You will also notice the scrolling ticker of the latest feeds coming in, plus a better thumbnail of each site in our index. If you can, let us know if you see anything weird or not working on the site. Thanks!

3/7/2007 - 50,000 feeds hit!

Today, we hit 50,000 feeds in our index! We are on the way to 1,000,000 feeds! Our Alexa Rank hit 550Kish today too - pretty cool stuff.

2/15/2007 - site released to the world wild web

We opened our doors today, rusty as they are to start collecting feeds - feel free to submit your rss feed today and link to us if you can. Thanks for reporting any bad sites in our index or sending us any bugs you stumble upon! Cheers! The millionRSS team.

2/12/2007 - Beta Site released

The millionRSS project is underway, we are working hard to add features to allow people to spread and publicize their rss feeds! On the way to 1,000,000 feeds baby!
